Re: Two questions
This question posed to Gordy seems to have been missed, so I repeat. Anybody is welcome to answer. Here is a loop Graeme has cast, a third through its climb: climbing loop.jpg Here is a figure from the Gatti-Bono & Perkins paper, showing four distinct loop shapes, one of which is a "climbin...

Re: Two questions
Hi Gordy This has been discussed previously but here is how I view it. The net positive force from drag on an inclined section of line (and I assume you accept that is the case) only has to partially offset the weight of the mass in the front portion of the loop to delay the expected fall from gravi...

Re: Two questions
Hi Gordy The amount of veer could be quite small so the path of a horizontal sexyloop shape (having an inclined section)would need to measured from a bird's eye view to see its actual path. If it does not veer at all then my understanding of the force of form drag on an inclined section of line is a...

Re: Two questions
About climbing loops. Gordy, in the universe of loops that climb due to form drag, how does an inclined loop nose section manage to lift the fly leg behind it? And reiterated, why does a horizontally inclined, horizontally cast loop shape not veer the cast? I think that loops climb when the very end...

Re: #4 Distance
Thanks for the advice, James and Paul. It makes sense. Launch and Carry I see as two separate exercises. Whatever the optimal carry point is, I don’t think it should be at the very extreme of your carry. The goal is to be able to carry more, so that when you carry optimal it’s less, you can control ...

Re: #4 Distance
Thanks for the tips and video, Paul. Didn't say I could carry 90' of the standard WF, just that I found backing in my line hand once it was time to shoot. Burned my hauling thumb and that cast did not end well. I tried the longer MED carry and so far about 85' is OK but I don't notice any "swit...

Re: #4 Distance
The good news is that once you’ve passed that point it becomes easier again. That provides some hope  I'm intrigued Paul, how you can determine the carry so precisely? And like Vince, I suppose, I am curious about some indicators of what "working properly" beyond 80' or 86' carry...

Re: #4 Distance
Hi Nick I find getting longer carries on the MED to be less easy than I was expecting with a long belly line. I can keep a few strokes of carry at 75' (made a little bump there with Solarez Flex) but can go past that for only maybe one back cast, then shoot. So, I don't yet know about the #5 MED wor...
