Small flies - big salmon
There are a lot of places where salmon are suckers for a small fly. I used to fish "wee doubles" a lot, size 10-14, mostly black, and caught fish on a lot of the Scottish salmon rivers. Mainly used to fish the Tweed system, but also remember using them effectively in the Helmsdale, Hallada...

FP 13/6/17
Enjoyed that FP. I have been in the same situation a time or two. These days we make it very clear beforehand whether it's a fishing trip or a vacation with a chance to fish.

Fishfinders/sounders
Hi Nick, I see structure pretty well - trees and so on. The problem with the side view is that it's a band and not a cone. So I don't get a static view because the screen keeps scrolling. Maybe I haven't figured it out properly yet! There is a lot of algae in the water. The screen keeps scrolling, ...

Fishfinders/sounders
Interesting point about sonar not working whilst static fishing. You would need an actual scanning sonar for that (I.e. With a moving transducer). With normal systems you just get a static view, so for anything to change something has to move. It can be either the boat or the fish. If the fish moves...

FP - Hooks; be sharp, be strong - is that too much to ask?
I can't see that there's any kind of quality process involved in hook production so we're at the mercy of some nameless company, down what's very likely to be a long rabbit hole of a production/distribution chain, buying the right material for whatever part of the process they're tasked to do. So s...

FP - Hooks; be sharp, be strong - is that too much to ask?
Ah, the good old "bad hooks" situation! We have been here before. I am also wondering which brand of hooks were at fault. I had a similar issue with a packet of tiemco saltwater hooks. They were totally soft and could be bent in a circle with one finger. However, I don't recall if I actual...

Been using my ortleib xtremer xl since I was canoeing down Swedish rivers, no padding but takes several rodtubes, and packing clothes around all the stuff that shouldn't get more beating than when fishing works fine. https://www.ortlieb.com/en/X-Tremer%20XL/] Cheers Lasse I have something very simi...

Loop the Loop
Interesting stuff. The only time I have had a welded loop fail, it was right there at the back end of the loop. It was a brand new factory made loop, so it's not just you that fucks up the welding process sometimes! I am still a fan of braided loops. When I have had those fail it has been the actual...
