New MED 5wt line

#1

Post by Michal Duzynski »

Hi
This might not be very important, but I'll ask the experts here.
My new MED 5WT lines just arrived. New box and... factory loops on both ends.
Weight of both lines is 26.2grams compering to 25.7grams of an older version without loops.
Now DO THE LOOPS MATTER?
1) personaly I think I would like to cut the back loop and make smoother conection with my backing, as I dont want any bumping loop to loop conections going through my guieds on a final delivery shoot.
....BUT NOW, THE WC RULES SAY THAT THE LINE CAN NOT BE MODIFIED IN ANY WAY????... so can I or not cut the loop?
2) Front loop- I have no issues with fishing and straight layout while using Loop to Loop, but is there any negative effect while using loop to loop in pure distance casting( 5wt comps). Is there any difference in final unroling while using this conection.
This is first time for me, that's why Im asking, and if nn loop would be better can I cut it off? ( back to big question from point 1)

On the other hand- nobody has to see that it was new version of the line. I can cut the loops off, and as soon as my laser markings are ok, Im in the game?
Kind of lost here....
cheers

Good questions! I would definitely want to cut both loops off. I’m surprised you’ve managed to get two lines weighing the same. Are they the same length?

Cheers, Paul

Hi Paul
Yes both the same.
I will measure the lenght tomorrow.
I want ti know before I start casting them. I ordere 2. the laser markings are wearing off quickly, so 1or 2 casts with both and the one that feels better( Ive been advised by a friend) stays in a box for the WC.

Who can decide then?, Where do we ask?

cheers

That is also a good question. I don’t know who is involved now but you could try either Sakari or Lee. I can’t see it being a problem to cut off the loops. They are only there for people who can’t tie knots.

Cheers, Paul

Your friendly neighbourhood flyslinger

Flycasting, so simple that instructors need to make it complicated since 1685

Got a Q++ at casting school, wearing shorts ;)

Hi
I liked John's idea and wrote not to Polish Fed., but to ICSF info email.

Im happy with a very quick reply.

"Hello!

You can cut the loops. It’s allowed, and recommended.

I am answering for Josef Dolezal, as I am in the board of ICSF, and in the Flycasting commission.

Looking forward seeing you in England

Best regards

Thorgeir Gustavsen

Secretary General"

I might cut them, and measure them again today

Cheers

Ciao All
I hope you dont mind me going back to the old thread about line weights from 10months ago.
After reciving 2 new MED lines in 5wt, I did some measuring and have some observations.
10 months ago I've asked ( as I was worry) if entire mass of 5wt MED- 25.7grams will result shorter distance as other 5wt MED with a weight of 27grams.
Things were nicely explained to me and all is good now.

Funny- look at the pictuers of the line (25.7grams) after 10 months of intens casting....
The colour change is on a 76-84 feet mark, that is where the cracks are, and where the dirt comes in.
Look at the weight of the same line now- it gained weight :D :D . Funny because I cut a bit after a while to change my leader, and now ( after measuring it today) it has lenght of 119 feet, but weights more????
Question- if I have this line in WC( laser markings are off, but if they were there) would I be good as per rules, or would my line be concider as a 6wt?
cheers
mike
