Thanks Torsten, I have had many discussions with Heinz Maire Hengse and other German casters about casting in Germany and it is the same in each country. Very, very few fisherpersons become casters, fly or other. I do not think casters are elite, just dedicated. I think the same fishing organisations would view casters who compete in fly casting tournaments in exactly the same manner as they do casters who compete in inland casting events. There will be more and more pressure on fishing organisations to reduce, or discontinue funding for casting. It is purely a numbers game and in most countries, casting will lose that game.

Ouch! That would be too much for me too. I budget £1500 total for the Worlds. That would be over my budget for sure. It’s not cheap to fly from Malaysia to Sweden 😂

Of course if the plan is to be world champions by pricing everyone else out then it could work very well :D But then it’s not real of course.

Well, that's casting sport and all 9 events, there is written in the invitation:

"The fee for participaters and companions from Tuesday lunch until breakfast Sunday morning includes hotel and breakfast, lunch, dinner, banquet, participation fees, excursion, access to spa, relaxation and access to gym."

Given that, for me it's not much expensive. For instance I've checked 5 nights Berlin - you're paying more than 500€ with breakfast only in an average hotel. But you're right not all are willing to pay this amount for a competition (without sponsorship of their organisations).

Love the comparison of Berlin with Rønneby 🤣

For me a conversation about costs doesn’t make sense until we know them :D In every WC there has always been an option to not stay at the formal accommodation. Only the last one was the evening dinner tied to the accommodation - or also in Estonia? Certainly it was not essential to stay in the Cumbria Cabins but I did so because Lee asked me to

Lasse, I remember often Sweden was more expensive than Germany and you need a hotel for all people, not easy to organize IMHO. At least for me the sum isn't spectacular - for some sports you're paying already a high entry fee. Maybe it's much less for fly casting only - Paul is right - pure speculation at the moment. I think I've paid over 400€ for the indoor cup in Tallinn - but with flight included.

Shortly checked Ronneby Brunn Hotel:
Starts at 710 € / 5 nights / breakfast only for single room

I wouldn’t mind the competition taking place over a longer time if it allowed for more heats/ knockouts /a different format. I think we will have to find somewhere where we can have some shootouts :)

I’m half planning 1-2 months in Europe. Maybe a week fishing in the North. Would like to visit Mika and Satu in Finland. Visit Latohegy in Hungary and a week’s fishing in Bosnia. Planning at least 1 preferably 2 long distance triathlons as well.

And this in prime free-rising Snakehead time :D

Yes, Lasse - but that's not the point - if you're adding everything else like lunch, banquet, the efforts for the venue, helpers, officials etc. etc. seems to me plausible that you're getting this sum.

It is always possible to conduct a World Championship far more cheaply than has been the case in the past by having

competitors set up and dismantle courts,
competitors do all judging and recording,
competitors do all administration for the event,
everyone source their own accomodation,
everyone provide their own transport to and from venues,
everyone do their own catering,
no subsidy of any non-competitor,
hand out medals etc after each event,
etc.

An even cheaper option is to have the event each year, here in Melbourne, Australia, inclusive of the above listed criteria of course. That option at least keeps my costs to an absolute minimum :-), don't know about anyone else. :-(

Now, of course, I am taking the piss with the above, well maybe not with the last sentence, so be gentle with me. I agree let's wait till we see the Swedish Casting Federation's proposal and associated caster costs before we hail it or can it.

I hope we all can be pleasantly surprised, support all 15 events, and have a great week.
