Platform, or No Platform

Paul , I've tried both leaving the line on the platform and on the ground in front of the platform.
Both have their advantages and disadvantages - snagging of the running line is a major obstacle - its easy to stand on it on the platform and unless the ground directly infant of the platform is nice lush grass the weeds have a tendency to grab hold of it and stop the cast dead in the air (dandelions are the strongest weed ever :( )
Owing to my casting style (& body weight ~210lbs/15st/96kgs) most of the platforms I've used at WC events do not have the stability to utilise the transition of body weight movement on the distance events (only speaking from 2006 onwards).
Me personally, I prefer to cast from flat ground (a stable footing), I can remove 10-15m when casting from a platform which isn't great, it would reduce the amount of infrastructure required to host a WC event.

It sounds very difficult mate. I’ve had the same problems on floating platforms where instead of taking off on the right leg it’s gone downwards which is very disconcerting. Trying to figure out how to organise the line is always a problem. Very careful line placement seems to run contrary to the feeling that we need to gun as many shots down the lane as possible. Mind you, you could spend 5 minutes placing the line neatly for the wind to come along and blow it over the edge :)

I think with full lines it’s more important to place the line on the platform. With shooting line the additional distance the mono has to travel is not such a distance killer. I’ve made that mistake with full lines before

Cheers, Paul

I was surprised on your deviation from your fireplace policy of no angry emoticons, that's all

Just get us all in water and we'll be using linebaskets in no time ;)
