170 stopless cast

Have always been interested in the development of casting technique and was thinking about the stopless backcast technique used by many Trout Distance event casters today. I have seen reference to its origins in Best of the West distance events but I had seen it in the 80s used by Czech ICSF casters in the 38 gram Single Handed Fly Event. Whilst going through some very old videos yesterday, I saw the best in the world use it way back then.
Just goes to show, great technique transcends gear. Can’t see the line on the film but if my memory serves me correctly, and that is always a tad dicey, I was impressed with the ultra tight loops at turnover back then by those who used it for heavier shooting head casting.

Hi John

Cool to hear, and yeah, rarely something new under the sun :D

That's great - I would love to see more interaction between the two championships. One reason I'm looking forward so much to Sweden.

Does anyone know how this will work by the way? Can we enter T38 for example?

Cheers, Paul

I must get my old stuff converted, but what impressed me then is the same that impressed me in Cumbria, the speed and tightness of the loops. I hope the two events will not be concurrent next year so that some reciprocity is possible. A sobering issue is the availability of administrators, judges, court builders etc being available for an extended time, plus having a venue that can be shared, or at worst, in close proximity.

Hope we can get the planets aligned.

Does Jersey have two teams?

I know I could enter in Sweden when they had the nationals at the same place, and several of the swedes entered, I just watched 😊

I'm not sure about Jersey. Unfortunately not living there really makes it really difficult to compete or train with them. I spent a long time thinking about it and decided it was more practical to compete for my chosen country of living and not the one where I was born. Many of the Jersey team have taken that the same decision for themselves, coming from elsewhere. I gave my official notice to the ICSF last year. I think that the Malaysians will just send one team, but certainly throwing T38 and a few of the other events can be attempted.

What events do you plan on entering?

Cheers, Paul

I just hope I can go 😊
If that is possible, and I remain injury free (just sprained my bloody right wrist on a fall 😠) I will probably go for TA TD STD and SF (seatrout just have the wrong abrviation doesnt it πŸ˜‚) and would be fun entering the T38 too, but not sure I can get strong enough in a year 😲 speys I am just cannon fodder so would rather stay out and not waste judges time.

What is SF? Seal fur?

What events are there for flycasting in the other games? Accuracy, T38 and T120? How does the other accuracy comp work, John?

Thanks,
Paul

Oh that’s a pity. I was hoping they had a SF and Lumiline freestyle competition. I might have a chance of wining something :)

Pickup and lay down right? With strip measure?
