Yep - it will take a full #8 Bonefish line (Bonefish by SA) with some backing. If I used fine braid I could get enough length on there I think. If I can work out how I'll post a couple of pictures.

God and Paul knows how to embed pics. These show a Fulgor 03 next to a more usual saltwater reel, my Shilton. Transfer the line and backing to the Fulgor and you get some backing on there. I could get far more by usinf a fine braid rather than dacron.

Personally I suspect the Rexfly holder may be a better solution.

What’s the difference between having backing vs fly line?
Running line is the thin part of the WF line behind the head. Backing of 20 or 30lbs is considerably thinner in diameter and so you can spool up more backing in place of the running line that you've removed from the fly line. In saltwater you are going to need that. I would want at least 100m for Bonefish.

The insert image tag in the full editor posting page, but you have to link to the image itself. I opened the image link in a separate browser and copied and inserted the URL in the image tag.

The code should look like this...

Code: Select all

100m would do. If you check for example, an Abel Superseries 7/8 that takes a WF# line and 200yds of backing. That is about the standard when you're talking true saltwater gear.

Cuba a couole of years ago I had a guy fishing with 10ft reservoir rods and LC100 reels. He caught and landed his share of baby tarpon and bones. Some scary moments but it can be done. I doubt those reels would last a few trips, but not the point really.

Can you see those pics Paul and is there a more elegant way to display them?

That's pretty good! You'll have to be a little careful with other lines. A RIO Bonefish 8 for example has a head 10 feet longer and one AFFTA heavier (it's really a 9WT). I doubt that would fit even without the backing!
