Hand path and rod butt angles

Read in Technology of Fly Rods, by Don Phillips, pg 81.
"With near horizontal rod butt angles, the angler must change his hand-path from straight to concave in order to maintain straight line rod tip paths."

Interesting, admittedly I never tried this. It's the first time I heard of this...anyone have experience with this?

Yes this is Swoop (which interestingly I've just mentioned in another post). There are some good videos of Alejandro doing just this in the 120ft club many years ago. I'll post some links tomorrow.
