A good article about water problems by Matt. An ever growing topic. However, I would like to add that folks check out the water footprint of stuff and food. Check out this page and make your conclusions. Mine is very very clear ... besides the rather obvious measures is to stop eating meat the one of the best things one can do for the planet, not only from the water footprint perspective, but also from the methan gas and CO2 footprint perspective.

I recognized that clothes also have a high water footprint. Paul is again at the forefront. A vegetarian with one pair of socks and two shirts ;-)

No, but seriously folks. Every time people walk into McDonalds they kill halv a river.

For my $0.02AUD, living on the driest continent of the planet, no wake up call is needed. It's not just about water and water is not just about the food we eat.

The big picture and some sense of personal responsibility are what is needed. We live on a planet with finite resources and rather than wait for self serving politicians to think of something more than themselves and the next election we need to take personal responsibility and use less of the planet's resources. The crisis isn't coming if we don't do something. It's here and ideological finger pointing is unlikely to keep the good ship Earth afloat.

Mark,

you are absolutely right. There is many factors .. and the food industry is one. We have to start with what we consume and who we elect.

However - one thing is sure. The planet will survive many many billions of years after us. The quality of life we humans have is sad dictated by our own stupidity.
