The Skjern River is completely closed for fishing because of low water and very high temperatures. High temp means low oxygen=low survival rate for salmon when released.
Varde Rivers system advices against fishing, but the river is technically open.
As of today, all fishing in the mighty Gaula in Norway is closed, same reasons as above.
The summer in Scandinavia is *really* hefty this year!

What temps are the water Lars? My lake today was 32 but that’s very different of course!
Ardeigh used to get into the low 20s. Trout don’t like that. Hungary gets to 25C in some lakes consequently no trout (apart from a few places.)
Cheers Paul

Not sure of the river temps here in Wales but some of the fishing on the Wye and Usk has also been suspended due to high temps and low water. Had quite a bit of rain over the weekend but probably need a lot more before things get back to normal.

I have seen that Edsforsen in Sweden is closed as well. Very low water too there and many rivers are almost dry. We are lucky here at Skålestrømmen that our water is in between two big, deep lakes. Temps are normal and water level rising right now after a few days off rain in the mountains. Fishing is good to very good.
Cheers,
Thomas

The cut-line is 18 degrees C, higher than that and oxygenlevels are too low to support C&R (and one can wonder than on one system night fishing is allowed, because Water temp is lower, but oxygen levels drop 20-30% in the night - go figure???). Over 21-22 degrees C and salmonids are in critical condition.

That's something I didn't know. Perhaps it's something to do with photosynthesis? Oxygen in the water might be related to algae producing it when the sun shines into the water.Viking Lars wrote:... but oxygen levels drop 20-30% in the night - go figure???
