I would look at japan, its where I got some exceeding small hooks way back, via a friend who played Violin with the RPO on world tours .
the tinies we got were barbed but such small barbs hardly had any effect.

Have a look at these.

Varivas 2200BL
(Curved shank, fine wire)

Wizard 661BL
Maruto D9626BL
(Similar hooks - Short shank/wide gape. V fine wire)

Short shank, so you can tie smaller flies but still have good hooking power.

If you want stronger hooks, you can go for something like a Kamasan B981 which goes down to size 20, but again has a short shank. These will handle big fish on strong tippets and in comparison with most fly hooks, are small for their stated size.

You can get similar down to size 20 which again have shorter shanks and may in fact be smaller than a size 20 dry fly hook.

t.z., any recommendations as to a good mail order source for the following Ahrex hooks?

FW507 in sizes 20 & 22; and
FW517 in sizes 18 & 20.

I can’t find a UK dealer or a website that I can understand.
