For our test we were pulling the hook around a screwdriver. This is probably not the most realistic test but would be a good way of making comparisons. I hope you are wearing eye protection!!!!

Ooops! I didn't think of wearing eye protection. I will from now on. Thanks Paul! I tied a perfection loop that I put on the door handle and tied the hook with a clinch knot with a long tag that I could hold so it wouldn't fly away when it broke/straightened and the hook of the scale in the hook gap and pulled until failure.

I'll test a few more when I'm in Tassie using your method to see if I get the same results!! It sounds like it should be the same.

This went on a back burner for me. I haven't seen Gourami eating small stuff since then.

Bought some new braid today. The braid you sent me I find a little soft. I think it needs to be waxed, but I'm not 100% sure what the differences are yet. The best I found was that Xzoga stuff, but it's not available up here and the company don't answer any emails.

The new stuff is the Tomman brand. It's 15lbs and .15mm (on the packet). And it's black. The Tomman brand seems to be pretty good here.

I also bought some in white - mostly because I've never tried white. 20lbs, .22mm and "fast sinking".

Hi Flavio. Yes, I think they floated alright, though I only had two of my own yellow deer/foam flies and the best one came off on my first cast due to a bad knot/cast. The one that you made for me was the one I caught my gourami on though! I am going to make more of those and also some other patterns, termite and I will try to make a firefly for late night fishing and see how that goes.

On Taupo - I don’t know if they still are, but when I was fishing there a few decades ago lumi-flies were very popular. I would see anglers charge them up with flash guns in their pockets.

There was something quite mesmerising about watching a lumi fly travel backwards and forwards on a moonless night.

I think we have glow flies, glow beetles and glow worms here

What we call fireflies are actually beetles. The glow worm are in the same family and if I recall correctly, most females are wingless. I just think it would be fun to try it. It's quite hard to emulate the blinking though.
