Does anyone know the max drag rating for the Mako 9550? I read a thread a long time ago where someone "tweaked" his Mako to increase the maximum drag setting. I think it was SMS but I can't remember.

Thanks,
JIm

I have two of the 9600B model. I had the other tunes by Jack. I had it de-tuned last year. Basically the lowest setting was too high for comfortable line stripping.

The 9600B has about 6,2kg of drag as standard.

Thanks SMS. I would guess the 9550 probably has about the same. I sent them an email and will hopefully hear back on Tuesday. With the loss of an NV 11-12 two days ago by a friend of a friend, I'm now down to 2 tarpon reels and would like to get a Mako - then find a used replacement eventually for the NV since I have two loaded spools for one. I got that reel for my daughter and one of the spools is purple- changing to pink depending on the light. The spool handle on the reel I was going to loan him I discovered had a broken knob from when a kid I took out stuck his thumb in there too soon and ripped off his thumbnail. I hadn't realized the knob broke off at the shoulder bolt head.

G'day Jim,

I'll do my best to measure it for you tonight when I get home from the day out.

Cheers,
Graeme

Thanks, Graeme - I appreciate it. If you would do it at the start of the backing, that would be even greater. :D

Cheers,
Jim

Yep, that's what I've done. I get 6.2kg max drag.

I set up the reel on an old rod, attached the bucket and filled it with water until the bucket started to move down. Weighing the bucket with water gave me 6.2kg.

Cheers,
Graeme

Thank you, Graeme. Super!

I'm going to order two on Tuesday if they have any in stock - everything is closed Monday. My buddy will take one of them when he gets back here for the next good set of tides.

Cheers,

Good luck with that Jim. I believe there is a waiting list and it can take 6 to 18 months to have one delivered. I could be wrong though. Please let me know what you find out because I'm interested in getting a 9500.

Cheers,
Graeme
