Any rod builders on the board?

Looking for a recommendation on rod finish epoxy for thread wraps on a rod I’m rebuilding.

Built a few rods about 10 years ago or more, think i used Flex Coat. There seems to be loads more choice now. Anything that stands out or are they still pretty much the same?

Cheers

Hi Daniel

Everybody has their favourites, I guess it’s what you get used to. I like Sensei

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rod-building ... 2194824181

I tend to mix about 15 drops of each for 2 rod sections and accept that there will be some waste. If you try to be too frugal, it’s easy to get a poor mix that won’t set. Warming it beforehand does help and I do thin slightly with meths.

Regards

Vince

Thanks Vince, I’ll check the Sensei stuff out.

So you apply your finish in 2 separate batches? Say bottom two sections first, then top two later?

Hi Daniel

I have built a rod drying box that can only take 2 sections at a time which limits what I can achieve in a single application.

Have a chat to Lee this weekend. I know he’s very particular!

Have used Roddancer Lite on a couple of fibre glass builds and had good results. Would recommend warming for first coat rather than thinning. Also less is more.........John
