I think we need a modern day rimfly. Cost £20, spools were a fiver. Lasted a decade or more without any service. The only drag system that was infinitely variable, evtremely sensitive, and could be altered at a moments notice during the fight - the exposed rim for palm control!

The reel foot has always been a weak point. I’m surprised no one machines these complete from the same barstock as the reel frame itself - or is there such an animal?

Hatch does is.
They are a bit more expensive than 20pounds.
