SA Amplitude trout

Does anyone have experience with the SA Amplitude trout (smooth or textured)?
The taper looks quit similar to the MED.
Does it cast the same?

No, it doesn’t cast the same. They’re not miles apart, but the Trout has a finer front taper and hence a “softer” delivery than the MED. I’m *really* looking forward to the “Standard”, which is based on the Infinity. The Infinity is an awesome line, only half-heavy. The Standard is on-weight (can you believe we’ve come to a point where they start naming lines based on the fact that they’re adhering to standards?).

I've got the SA Amplitude Trout (textured) in 6wt. I use it in salt water and only for fishing, not grass casting. My SA MED only really gets used for grass casting, so I haven't directly compared them.

The Trout is good for longer casting, which is why I choose to use it in some situations.

The infinity seems to get good reviews, but the 1/2 heavy part turns me off. I totally love the MED, but would like to try one of there lines with the AST+ coating.
@Graeme Do you find the texture is an improvement over a smooth fly line?

No, not really. I haven't done a proper test though. Given that we moderate our casting to suit the situation, it's hard to say without out controlled back-to-back casting experiments.

Not sure. I wonder if I should take a textured one.
Since the sound is a minus for me, there should be some benefits would I consider buying one.

I can't add to the answer Lasse gave, but another thing against the SA textured lines is the wear and tear on your fingers (or gloves/stripping guard). These lines take off some skin as you strip them through your fingers, and if your day involves a lot of blind casting, it's going to hurt. It's not so bad if you're sight fishing, but casting to +80' on a regular basis (which is where the marketing blurb is pitched) is rarely done in the sight fishing I do myself.

Having said that, the texture on SA lines hasn't stopped me buying them if the tapers and line weights are something I'm after. These days, it's getting hard to find lines that are true to weight.

For repetitive casting-type-fsihing I don't like the textured lines as much as I do a smooth one. As Graeme says, they are quite hard on the fingers, and I dislike using those stripping guards/finger-thingies.

However, for dry fly where I cast only to sighted fish, I really do enjoy the easier pickup, which I find noticeable. Also flotation seems a bit better.
