Scientific Anglers only show the head weight for the first 30 feet like most manufacturers do. Some are now showing the full head weight as well. The 5 weight MPX shows a 30 foot weight of 150 grains and the head is 36 feet long. Anybody know the weight of the full head length of 36 feet?
Another question. The MPX is listed as one half line size heavier for fast action rods and the Rio Grand is listed as a full line size heavier. Anybody have any comments about these 2 lines and how they are?
Not sure how popular these lines are in the UK, I'm on the other side of the pond.
Thanks, Leo.

Re: Scientific Anglers MPX Question
The MPX is an excellent allround WF-line that I have used a lot, both for dry fly, nymph, wet fly and even light saltwater for sea trout. The ideal target weight for 5-wt in the AFFTA-system is 140 grains, and SA states that the MPX weighs 150, so that's where the "half-over-weight" comes in. I don't know the actual head weight.
I'm not really familiar with the RIO Grand, so I won't comment on that.

Re: Scientific Anglers MPX Question
Not much to add to Lars his observations.
I have the MPX in a #5 and #6, but only use them for students.
They are very easy to cast and my students like them.
They also have that compound taper which should delay turnover and improve presentation. I can’t comment on that since I have not used them for fishing.
Cheers, Bart

Re: Scientific Anglers MPX Question
Just found out, it's a 175 grains. It's posted in the 2020 print catalog but not on their website. That's a switch.
