I use the simms dry creek roll top pack. Their guide model has great capacity for backcountry missions too. Waterproof with a comfy harness system.

The Simms pack is nice, but I actually find the carry system below average. I have it and use it, but it doesn't sit nearly as well as a proper day pack (which of course isn't water proof). The Patagonia Storm Front is very nice too, but awfully expensive.

Storm Front...$300...PataGUCCI!

I have two Patagonia N2O jackets - neither of them are anything more than showerproof - a REAL waste of money!

Don't really like rolltops...Simms Dry Creek Daypack might be an option - anybody any experience?

Thanks,

Bass

Ortleib Flight.

Ok, it's not specifically a fishing pack - more for the peddle crowd, but they're very comfortable, light and very well made.
I carry a fairly heavy load of cameras in mine and find it works very well because the harness and waist belt are so good.
Like all these sorta things the zippers need to be lubed and kept clean.

Come on, THAT's no good! No fish logo? No fly or casting logo?

Hadn't seen that one, looks perfect. thanks. Good to know it's comfy, too.

I use Ortlieb kit bags for travelling - in my mind a sensible compromise between ruggedness & lightness - and UTTERLY waterproof. Using them for flight travel, they won't last forever, but they're not expensive either.

They weigh only a kilo and take a 4pce 9 footer. So over a few trips, cheaper than paying excess luggage - waterproof clothes and spare waterproofs get VERY heavy.

Before I discovered the Ortlieb, I was considering a wheeled beheremoth - until I realised that IT was going to take up nearly 50% of my 20kg luggage allowance. So I bought two Ortlieb kits bags, and a collapsable trolley - 3 kgs in all.

Thanks for the advice.

Cheers,

B

The Ortlieb saddle bag I biked around Oz with is my main kit bag and still going strong. That's over two years now.

Cheers, Paul
