Scottish Meet in Spain

Hi guys and girls,

Having talked with Carlos and friends, we're looking at meeting next year 2014 here, http://www.hotelbaztan.com/en/index.htm

I have stayed here. It is a large and excellent hotel with conference rooms, trout fishing (that we'll have to organise well in advance) and a large casting field that is perfect for us. It's a beautiful location and has a closer airport than Bilbao - maybe Aitor can help here?

If we're agreed that this sounds good then I'll contact the hotel. We're looking at the first weekend in May again as the traditional thing? ie 3/4th? I think it would be a blast to meet our Spanish friends, who are equally mad as it transpires :p

And even with flights (assuming you book early) it should cost the same or less for the Scotts. Spain is very cheap, especially when it comes to booze.

What do you think?

Cheers, Paul

Or is another weekend better? Maybe the one before? Hard to believe that people actually have plans this far into the future!

Humm, it depends. I have had pints in London cheaper than in Bilbao :glare:
Fortunately Baztan is not that expensive.

Spirit measures in Spain are inspirational... What I don't get and have never understood is why no one goes out until 4am, anyway I'll also enquire about the weekend before for Lee and Fernando.

Cheers Paul

when do trout waters open in Navarra ? seems a little early, at least compared to the northern side of the Pyrenees.
at that time of the season we'll have to deal with snow melt. fishable but...

Too far in advance for me! I'll do my best to make it though, whatever date.

Rivers don't open until May 1st, so if we don't do the first weekend in May, we should do the second. Waiting back to hear from the Hotel.

At the moment it has to be a no from me :(

Wanted to be there, planned on being there, budgeted for being there. However things change and there's no way I can manage it, my plans for 2014 have rather gone back to the drawing board - partly this is work related.

Not all gloom though, come the event one evening I'll open up a cerveza or two, turn to the south and raise a glass in salute to all who make it to Spain for the Scottish Gathering.
