I was wondering what your favourite analogies were for teaching the jump roll? I quite like up the stairs and across the landing 😀

All the best

Nick
Hi Nick,
I don't use much analogies in teaching.
Jump roll for me comes in "Lift, sweep, cast" (three steps). Always start with the rod down low and the line straight.
For the sweep I may use "back, back, up" to add an idea about tip path during the sweep.
It will then be "lift, back back up, cast".
If the stop isn't coming right, I change cast in "11". That usually does it in no time to have my student stopping at ten.
So, whatever goes wrong ... I change my wording to support it to be corrected in every cast. Then having the student speak the wording him/herself works fantastic. Every human can match movements and speaking. Disharmony here feels too wrong!

Bernd

The first cast is always the best cast.
