What lines weights do you typically teach with?

I realise that this may depend largely on the type of fly fishing you are teaching, but if you were to introduce someone new to flycasting what line weight/s would you use?

I typically use a 6. Here in the jungle a lot of my teaching is with 8s and 10s but a standard introduction for me would be a 6 line class.

What are your thoughts?

For me, the go to rod would also be a #6.
I can think of many situations when to choose another class, but mostly a #6 will do.

There's sense behind the question to Buddha's poor question, and typically I teach with shooting heads, so lineweights between 7 and 55 grams depending on student and target for teaching

If I am providing the rods, then it is usually an early level beginner student. So, my student rods are 6 wt line on an 8'6" 5 wt rod.

6wt is what I'm teaching with on my own rod, but I ask the student to bring something between 4 and 8. I ask them to practice with a DT6 if they own a 6wt outfit.

I suppose it depends also on the fishing we teach. But even so I don’t want to do a whole practise session with a 10WT rod. With poor technique that can cause injury and also I think lighter outfits require better loop control to get any sort of distance. For example a 10WT will still unroll with a wide loop but a 4WT will most probably collapse.
