The Switch Cast (Jump Roll)

They using 8-9wt lines, preferebly long belly.
There is a whole thread on italian forum regarding lines for froller. And this is mostly for lake fishing.
If you want to play with the translator I can post the link.

Personaly I think its bullshit. Majority of italians use TLT , you send them to the lake and their 5wt lable rod, with 2wt line on it, and supper tight, sharp loops wont take them far.
Add a weighted wooly bugger and its a recipy for disaster.
In order to accomodate big fly, and distance they inveted FROLLER CAST( all above are personal thoughts), and even if the fish is small they are fighting it on a 9wt setup, but they cover a lot of water with long casts around the lake.

40m- with 9wt- whatever, you still need shit loads of clear space to put the Dloop down.
If I have 15m space for a back cast, I could put woolybugger to 90feet with 6wt line.
So I think the whole froller crap is nothing else then substitution of not knowig how to cast a part of TLT.
Once on a fishing show, in Italy there was an indoor 25m casting pool. I performed this cast with 5MED and the fly landed on the other side ( outside) of the pool.
All I called it was long, statuc roll cast with huge f...kin D loop.....

Cheers
Mike

Just rewachted the facebook video.
The comentator is so exited that the cast went 40m, and he is saying that they will mesure it exactly, and they used another rod as a mesaurment, pulling the line of the water- REALLY???
Mostly they saying how much line is out of the tip, but we never see if it landed on 40 or on 30 with coils.
But, Im asking for what? 3set up casts before the final delivery, same can be done with 3 false casts, and from the video you can tell they have enough space behind.....

Well let them have it

Cheers
Mike

Bernd, Lee and I had a measured switch shootout measuring different lines. These were 5 and 6 wt lines meaursed along a dam wall. Only one had a result over 90ft and that was the Loop Optio.

When I get a chance I'll measure the MED8 cast.

Cheers, Paul

EDR-F XS-Plus ED Roll-Cast Line A specialist twin colour fly line primarily developed for lake fishing, where distance is required but little or no back-cast may be available. This floating line has been constructed using a 60ft long 'Spey' style head with a steep rear taper and a long front taper, with a 60ft running line behind it, for exceptional casting performance in all situations. For many people 60ft is ample distance and this can be achieved with a simple roll cast now and no back cast necessary. With practice and time however, the technique pioneered by Italian fly casting legend Edgardo Döna, can also draw on the reserves of running line and produce extreme distances without the need for a back cast!...(Read more...)
Just lifted this from the snowbee site.
I have the #6 wt ready to spool onto a Marquis 8/9 it will be used with my 10 ft pm 10#6 (yes i know ancient) or a Orvis #6 switch rod or maybe a 9.6 #6.
now to arange a lessy chilly day and some time of work !
Hey over the years i have been suckered into the latest greatest spey style lines going from 30 yd DTs through 40 yard DTs ,have not quite been down the Skagit route yet ,just not elegant !
