It is the change in the moving mass with respect to time (dm/dt) that produces the positive acceleration force rather than the amount of mass at any given point in time, but that is how Hendry explains it.

It also helps to realize the shape of a whip wave is different than a fly wave. Thus you cannot use the conservation of energy argument that predicts that taper in the thong of a whip will cause the velocity of the whip wave to increase and crack and apply it to what is going on for a fly wave.

Well I’m not really a TA sort of guy. However when I cut my leader off or hang it in a tree for a while then the line behaves very much like a bull whip. Generally speaking that’s how I know because it goes crack!

I don’t see how a loop travelling through space knows if it’s a whip or a flycast. The difference is how much energy is left once it’s finished unrolling.

I've been told by a couple of physicists that it's not wavy enough and that works for me. You are hitting it too hard, I would recommend you practice delicate presentations and try to avoid trees.
