Why Paul, the wind could be better for one set of casts one day and the advantage reversed the next.

There was definitely a TCX #10 in the mix - it was my ST27 rod at the time (plus Tracy's predator rod).
When I did my own, separate, test I chucked furthest with a Xi3 #12 - but that felt very flukey (poor 2nd cast). I've never had the confidence to use this in a comp.
But then you have to ask who wins a casting contest (we've done this before) - someone with a high average but low deviation or someone with a slightly lower average but a higher deviation? The statistics suggest the slightly lower average/higher SD caster wins more than they lose.
James.

Sounds reasonable to me James, what did your own test indicate if you treated the flukey cast as an outlier?James9118 wrote:The statistics suggest the slightly lower average/higher SD caster wins more than they lose.

Why is there so much doubt about stiff rods casting further?
I am casting further since I switched from a TCR #6 to a HT10.
Most finalists in the WC are casting #9 or #10 rods I think. Isn’t that convincing enough?
Cheers, Bart

Hi Vince - unfortunately I can't find the data. I know I posted the best casts on the old board (it was Tracy and me casting a number of rods) but I probably had all the distances on a scrap of paper.

Why not #12 or broomsticks, they’re stiffer? Is #9 and 10 a physical limit such that the strongest will win?bartdezwaan wrote:

Thanks James.

Because Ronny threw 44 meters in 12 with a 5 rod, and if stiffer threw further, why aren't we throwing 54 now?bartdezwaan wrote:Why is there so much doubt about stiff rods casting further?

Tor used a 8 loomis nrx in 14, and everyone was thinking he used a 12....
How much further are you throwing from TCR 6 to HT 10? (Still claim the HT8 is stiffer than HT10 )
I'll see if I can find my numbers tomorrow, they where on the old board. .
Oh, and I'm saying the rod you use the most will yield the longest, and that just using a stiffer rod will not give you 2 meters more like magic. Paul claims otherwise, and I just want to have data,.. Paul, James and Lee seem to be fine with minimal data to support their claims, I prefer more data to less, call me old fashioned
Cheers
