Late haul - early release

Hi everybody,

I have been thinking about hauling late and releasing the line early. How does this work? If I haul very late it seems that the release will be reasonably late as well? Or else the haul will be short? I haul late but I have never practiced releasing early.

Cheers,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Late haul as in late in the stroke, around MCL or later.

Early release as in not handing on to the line until the loop forms but around about RSP or even earlier.

With the Snakehead Shot I actually release the line well before RSP, around about MCL (on the backcast).

I’m not sure if that clears anything up :D

Cheers. Paul

Haul at the end of the stroke, release when you run out of haul, if the latter isn't at or preferavly before when the rod is straight the first time, haul faster 😉

Another way with playing with the early release is to release during the haul and not at its conclusion. This is for example how I make the backcast during the Snakehead Shot. Quite interesting because you shoot line into the Casting Stroke (technically that may actually still fit our definition of Casting Stroke, but probably not :p I’ll think about that over a campfire :D ).

Hi!

Lasse: Hauling faster makes sense!

Paul: MCL -that's a new one for me. What does it mean? Maximum counter linespeed?

By the way - I am going to start practicing the snakehead-shot. Is there a reason you don't haul on the backcast? Would not a haul speed up the backcast?

Good place to go for those abbreviations 😊

Minimum Chord Length (between tip and butt end).
Something close to maximum rod load :D
