Re: “Whoosh” and other sensations
I thought it was David Watts.
I remember when I first started distance, here on the Board, I posted some videos and the first comment I got was from Rudi Ferris who was very active at the time and he said he couldn't hear the cast. So for him - lots of noise. On the second video he was much more impressed because, while I almost fell off my feet, he could hear the cast!
I don''t know how much is the rod however and how much is the line. I can certainly hear the line as it fires away.
Cheers, Paul

Thanks for the pointer to the earlier thread Dirk. I watched some kleilat on YouTube ... very relatable indeed!Dirk le Roux wrote: ↑Sun Jun 07, 2020 8:40 am...
SevenWeight, yes, these mental images can be beneficial. There recently was a thread (Aide memoires) dedicated on this sort of thing. My country has kleilat (clay-stick - flicking clay lumped around the tip of a flexible stick, often at another person as target), which is a very relatable image for Saffas learning fly casting.

John, I'm confused.
What is the difference between "whoosh" and "swoosh"?
Cheers,
Dirk

Hi Dirk,
Great question and one that goes to the very basis of casting philosophy. I suggest Paul consider establishing a separate Forum category to address this fundamental, panoptic issue. I think we can all agree that fly casters can generally be divided into two groups, namely, those who whoosh and those who swoosh.
I am more of a kerplunck kerplunck kerplunck type of bloke,

I’m still confused with Charlie Watts.

Re: “Whoosh” and other sensations
There is no difference between a swoosh and a whoosh, what is important is that you generate one or the other sound when training for distance. For me such a sound indicates hand speed. Whilst I was a tad irreverent in post 15 a swoosh or a whoosh is important and after reading Dirk’s post I started to think about the sound generated on my forward cast, and whether such a sound is generated on my backcast. Have my left foot in plaster at the moment but the sound described by Dirk is very relevant to my distance casting and when I am able, I will take notice of any sound made on my backcast.
Thanks Dirk, I have never considered my backcast in respect of any sound made, having ever only focused on my delivery cast, however, since reading your post, you have generated a light bulb moment for me.
Thanks,
John

That’s ok Paul, I’ll explain when we catch up. It’s the medication.

Yep, I like the backcast sound, Lasse. Do my eyes deceive me or is that a rod with a small diameter?
