Joining sections of different rods...

It had never occurred to me before this evening to try the butt section of one 9' #6 rod into section 3 of another: I tried the butt of a TCX into a Winston BiiX and it whilst it seems to go a wee bit deeper into section 3 than the BiiX butt does, it does appear to fit. All of the other sections seem to work, and vice versa. Something for me to play with.

Am I likely to do any damage by casting mix-n-match rods? (I have to pay for my rods so nervous of breaking them)

not if their's a good and proper fit . be sure the male ferrule goes in as far as it would with it's 'normal female' (hmmmm )
go for it !

If you don't find the right recipe for the mix and match, the rod will snap in no time. Ask Paul! Fitting ferrules won't help you much if the wall thickness is very different.

I would leave it if not absolutely necessary for some reason.

Paul had an Orvis/Sage (?) mix that seemed to last several years. probably the single rod he managed not to break... Ask Paul !

I don't think it's a problem so long as the sections fit. I did have the Sage Four for a while, which was comprised of sections from four different rods. If fact the butt section was a Maxia.

Paul's not really a good standard for this, he breaks matched rods on the first cast too

That's why he has to mix sometimes

If the parts fit, no worry, if they don't, leave it....

You might also tape the joints to stop them slipping.
