Glass?!

#1

Post by TrevH »

So I had a play with Vince's 5.5' glass rod. None of that new glass you understand, this is the rod he had as a child. It was great fun :D :D :D

I find myself looking at new glass rods ... I am drawn to them.

Am I mad? :O :O

What is the case for glass??? Is there one? :upside:

Tell me I'm not insane?!

Yeah the intention wasn't to start posting here yet, but WTF. :p :p

I know quite a few accuracy casters who still use glass, including Peter Hayes. So you probably are insane.
It's an exploration; bring a flyrod.

Come and have a play with my Steffen. Its a modern e-glass and light years ahead of the old fella you tried last time. If you want to try a range of rods, there is a fibreglass nut who lives between us and is a SDAC member who has a stack of different types, who I am sure would be willing to let you play. Also have a look around here:

I do not know of anywhere specific. There are some Hardy Fibatube blanks out there and I have also heard that Specialist Rod Services @ Biggleswade- tel 01767 317122 are worth a shout.

Thanks a lot, Vince ... I think I'm hooked!

Marc, some funky colours there!!

Badger, what colour's yours? Salsa?

CTS also make glass blanks - we like their carbon and, by all accounts, great service.

I see Steffen do spigot joints, I kind of like that.

Hell, I'm gonna have to build one :ninja:

But what rings to use ... Rec, SiCs, PacBay ... oh - wrong thread :pirate:

Thanks for the replies

Cheers

Can't argue technicals, don't know.

What I would say is that you, like me, probably go fishing because you enjoy it. If you get more pleasure doing it with one kind of rod over another then that's what you should use.
Cheers,
C.
