Hey Rasmus,

you were/are completely right, you don't need to release after the stop and it turns out that I rarely do, particularly when false casting. In fact my Snakehead backcast relies on simply touching the line with the line hand at the very beginning of the Casting Stroke and releasing it immediately, right after the beginning of the Casting Stroke.

It turns out that I do this on the forward cast too - something I discovered last week while teaching with the glow line at night.

So yeah you're right, I was wrong, sorry about that :p

Thanks for the insight!

Cheers, Paul

PS what I don't understand is why pull-back still works under these conditions but it undoubtedly does.

So much for finishing the haul too soon causing tails  - only if you hang on!

Try finishing really early on a long stroke ;)
Also try a uneven accelerarion if the haul (that would be finishing really early too...)

Those tails all come from the same source, and Rick Hartmann said it 15 years ago...

If you release the line immediately after stopping the haul right at the beginning of the stroke then there are no problems. In fact you'll slip a lot of line through the rings and the loop won't tail. It's part of my Snakehead shot.

Ah, but then you are doing something else to get away from tailing mate ;)

Want to borrow the release light? Would be fun to get that on high speed and with release light to see what really happens

What I found was that releasing before RSP gave the best shot, releasing at or after and the line got stuck against the rod and wouldn't shoot until after MCF..

Also, your early might be another ones late :p

Footage!

That's what you said years ago, Paul.
And each successive year gets shorter.

:D

I'll bring the light to Cumbria in August, and get Paul filmed!

Even though as a married man Paul is showing frightening signs of being organised, we better plan ahead on this one ;)

Cheers
