Reducing grip

Hi
Is there an easy way a grip thickness?
We talking 2-3mm.
Is pssing it with a very fine sandpapper a good idea( the only one I have)?
I dont want to change the shape of it, just make it slimmer.

Can be done with fine glass paper. Better/easier with a lathe! I’ve asked Lee for a comment

Ok.
On both I have a tennis racket tape.
On HT 10 with the wrap it is perfect. I feel that I have enough grip and control over it that I can hit it hard if need it.
On my new ST rod with the wrap Im not entirely in contrlo of my rod.
John Waters gave me a guidelines how it should feel when you hold the rod, but it doesnt.
I have no input in building my rod, so I had to exept it. It is briliant , just a grip little to thick.
I will measure it later and let you know.
Mean while let me know the size of the sandpapper...

I check it. HT( which suits me) is very similar to my new rod. Mayne because the rod is stiffer and longer I feel like i need more grip.
It would have to be very small adjustmets.
...and yes I have the thinesst tennins racket wrap.

Hi Mike,

Its easy to do with sandpaper. Just be careful and use paper with the proper amount of "roughness". I have done this several times with excellent results.

Hi Mike,

I use 400 -600 grit sand paper to reduce grip. I then work down to to 1500 grit.
I use a turner: lathe to turn down grip. There is option to do this without a turner which can be interesting but can also be hard work.
Things to look out for us the area around the hood of the reel seat as the cork can be thin. Taking of too much cork (no going back)

I will be carefull. I have to do it without rotating vice.
Anyway It has to be done in a place of the main belly, so it should be fine I think if I put a sandpapper around the desire area and move couple times un and down should do the trick( i think). I have an old butt section, so I will try to do it there first.

Question. After it is done, do I protect the cork somehow after dusting it off- there is bothing there at the moment anyway?

The tennis racket grip wrap will be always on it- it is not a fishing rod.

No the cork is a finished product without the need for anything else. If you find holes in the cork then you’ll need some filler.

It went well. Staryed with p800 and finished with p1200 and I reduce what I wanted.
Now with wrap feels good.
