Excellent page from Andy. Reminds me of when Ronan was over fishing for Snakehead. He said, you must “find time to make time” and “make haste slowly”. I teach you must “be deliberate”.

Visualisation for me has always been in slow motion. I often find myself thinking about strokes and going through the motions, in slow motion. Can be a bit weird when you are doing this in the kitchen. My stepfather is a great one for going through a cricket bat stroke in slow motion. I’ve seen him do this in the pub many times in fact. Even during conversations that have nothing to do with cricket. Just a completely random act which serves no apparent purpose whatsoever. I doubt he’s even held a cricket bat in the last 35 years!

Out of curiosity how many here use slow motion techniques for their casting?

Yes, although particularly since reading Jason’s book and doing more pantomiming... the last week or so I’ve been working on the rotation and trying to get my wrist to always rotate inline and remove the occasional curve it throws in

At the risk of changing the topic, slow motion mirroring (cloning) is an absolutely amazing technique for teaching. I know that many instructors have a big thing against cloning, which is a shame, because it is IMO one of the most effective teaching methods of all.

I actually think some of this stuff is inbuilt. I often see students in a course practising casts in slow motion without any prompting. Maybe they are golfers or martial arts specialists

Slow motion with eyes closed is even more intense! Just have to ensure that the motions your ingraining are the correct ones before making that jump.

Yup, works impressievly well.
Slow motion pantomime with eyes closed is next level, my wife who's a dance teacher/choerographer/ma in dance studies, did that on me 14 years ago, and light bulbs went on.

I think most Instructors are afraid of cloning, because there's too many examples of it going wrong, and ingrained faults are harder to remove....

Done right, powerful tool indeed! Hey, you taught me 170 by cloning
