(It’s in www.sexyloops.com/movies/ under /translation folder. You will notice that the end of the frame curves away very slightly. Frank had an issue with that as I recall )
Here’s an experiment for you Lasse. Hammer a stake into the ground, nail a piece of elastic to the top and splice a 10m shooting head to the elastic. Run to the end of the head and pull it backwards stretching the elastic. let go and now you have a true representation of an SLP.
Cheers, Paul

Can't see the movies in the directionary, only get your voice...
Your little experiement bundles together both tippath and linepath, and I'm only asking about the truth of a straight tippath making the line bundle up into the rod
Cheers
Lasse

Instead of holding the leader, hold the head three metres back. Not all the line will pile into the tip but most of the first three metres will.

I have actually tried it, but with a much shorter line. I’m quite sure with a longer line there is no way you will clear the stake. The tip path must dome to avoid the SLP collision but in addition you have the problem that gravity is affecting the fly leg too. With a vertical rod plane you either need to dome the tip path more, or you need to tilt the casting plane slightly on its side. It’s not only SLP that will cause tip/line collision but just approaching this “ideal” is sufficient.
I remember many years ago Bill telling me that he was having huge problems with instructors taking the SLP too literally.

Hey, I'm all on board for not taking slp literally, I was the one who said its the holy grail we seek but will never find
Just making a rod move with SLP without a line will show you how difficult it is (use the i side corner between a wall and ceilling) so doing it in an actual cast is something of a magicians trick.. Still not sold on the idea that if we mange a straight line, the line will collie just because of that... Hand casting comes to mind, can't recall having the line pilling up in my hand ever
Cheers
