Huge thanks for that! That’s a really good explanation for me. Top job.
I really appreciate the time you’ve taken on this.
Thanks again.

Daniel pointed out I had the wrong link. Try this one.https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Ar ... ion_detailHere is an article on the abuse of Newton's 2nd law being applied to variable mass problems that you might find interesting to study.

The easiest way is to cast two RIO Powerspeys then.gordonjudd wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 2:42 pm I am wondering if the lines were longer if the loop with the reversed head would overtake the thick-to-thin head.

Had to use the 18ft Competition Rod
Re: The point of tapers in fly lines and leaders
Outstanding cast, thanks a lot Lee.
But it seems that there is no difference, was one of the lines reversed? Puzzling.

Yes, thanks Lee. Again, an excellent video of the casts.
Does this then tell us that drag is not as critical to the cast as the numeric models would have us believe?
There is a difference between the casts, but it only shows up at the very end of the cast as the leader accelerates.
Cheers,
Graeme

Re: The point of tapers in fly lines and leaders
Hi Merlin
Yes, the head of which the fly comes through nearest to my head is reversed.
Around the point where the largest diameter of the head (approx 15-20ft of fly leg left) is where the loop accelerates to win this roll out race.
Two days ago I posted a similar video where the heads were shorter and that it was the head which was the right way round which won.
It was gordy who asked above if the heads were longer, would the wrong way round head overtake the one which is the right way round here’s the answer..
Cheers

I think this captured still image illustrates very well the difference in tension between the two lines around the point that both loops have just turned.
