Dangerous casting conundrum

Re: Dangerous casting conundrum
Nothing like a bit of problem solving when the fish are not biting (the norm).
2nd case, 270 degree change in direction, right handed caster. Face the bank, do a lob cast 180 degrees from blue line (dangle). While it straightens, turn in the direction of the red line (180 degrees) to face the river, point rod upstream. Proceed to a snake roll.

Re: Dangerous casting conundrum
2nd pic, slow lift over left shoulder and into a straightening backcast, then deliver over the right shoulder.

Paul nailed it “once I sorted out my diagrams correctly”
I’ve done the left shoulder lift into a right shoulder delivery, with tube flies on and I wasn’t convinced each time it was the safest....
Cheers

That’s very nice Lee!! I see on FB Will says you taught us this in Scotland? I don’t remember that either But if so you may have put it into my subconscious. So well done for both a cracking cast and great teaching!
You’re not demoing that in Cumbria surely? Where is the hurricane?
Thanks!
Paul

Re: Dangerous casting conundrum
Thanks Paul
I wanted to put the drone up and film it from directly above, but three times now I’ve had to switch it to sport mode and perform emergency evasive manoeuvres as oyster catchers get aggressive towards it and try knock it out of the sky!
Despite claims of stuff like this being circus casting, here as demonstrated is a very safe and viable solution to a tricky problem.
Have fun with Speys!!
Cheers

Re: Dangerous casting conundrum
I don’t think of it as circus casting; I find it to be very practical. What started as lumiline fights for me, I find particularly useful.
It’s possible (if you don’t have tandem tube flies ) to aerielise the cast so that instead of being a sustained anchor, you fold the line around in the air with a snap and just form the second anchor. I would happily do that with a dry fly for example - but tubes would be asking for trouble
Cheers, Paul

Re: Dangerous casting conundrum
Yes that would be cool and would result in a good set, like all the Ariel snaps do 8)Paul Arden wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 10:03 am
