The VPT is quite a nice line that really does perform well on rolls and speys, and it is, in performance, quite similar to the Triangle Taper (which wasn't triangle tapered, but that's another story).
I've dont a good bit of fishing and casting with the VPT and it doesn't carry large/heeavy flies well - certainly not on speys (not many lines do that when it comes down to it, unless they're bricks on a string). The tip can be a bit sensitive to wind, but I've solved that by cutting it back a little. You lose very little weight by doing that, but gain some diameter, which performs better with longer leaders and/or bigger flies.
It generates quite high linespeed on speys and rolls.

Hi all,

I thought i'd give you an update on this fantastic line! I bought the #6 version which has a head length of 45', so 5x the rod length for my 9' rod (the HT).

The first task was to weigh the line, and as expected, it was BANG on #6 for the first 30'! It didn't surprise me as that was written on the box, as a comparison, the RIO '#5' single handed spey weighed in as a perfect #7.

I ran through the roll cast, speys, airborne and waterborne anchors, right, off shoulder and left handed with the HT6. I used a Rio 9' powerflex to 2x with a bit of wool and also some dries. What i experienced matches exactly what Lars said, the line speed is pretty exceptional too. The tip is very light, and struggled with things like mini lures, so i'd probably keep this line for just casting, dries, or light small nymphs. I cant comment on the wind i'm afraid, as the day i tried it, it was flat calm

I've solved that by cutting it back a little.

How much did you cut back by the way, Lars? The whole sharkskin tip?

I'm not sure if it's just me, but the textured tip really did 'snap' into place like a magnet, and came out the water nicer than the Rio (i'm talking subtle differences). The taper is really nice and it's more of a general purpose line, it's nice overhead, where as imo the Rio SHS is very specialist, and it's a bit clunky, can be done of course, but wouldn't be my first choice for an overhead line.

I just wanted to try the VPT as it looked cool, it's quite excellent for speys, but i think i'll just stick with the thunderbolt and MED for everything

Interestingly I was recommended this line for use on a 2 wt for dry fly recently by Lubin pfeiffer.
I have been using the Primal zone 2wt for euro nymphing and was looking for a line to throw a dry as well.
From what you guys are saying I think it might be a good recommendation.

Euro nymphing rods are a bit odd in their line number specs. I cast one that was a “4WT” on the handle that would be best suited to an 8WT line.

Having said that I don’t think I would ever want to string a fly line through it! I’d be looking for a different action for casting nymphs and mono to the more forgiving action needed for different lengths of fly line. Definitely a case for me of either carrying two rods or making do with a fly rod (I use the HT904 for FN but if I was to carry a 10’FN rod I would still carry the 904).
