It could be used from a boat in deep water for trout. Much easier to use in that situation than 2 weight in the surf with strong winds.
I don’t know of anyone that uses T-38 for fishing either, I’ve used a #10 in the surf with strong winds for trevally.

I made up a shooting head specifically for one spot in the Bahamas (a blue hole that Mark had snorkelled over and tipped me off that there were monsters down there - from the description I think they were goliath groupers). Anyway, I got the densest line I could find, a Rio Leviathan, this was pretty much identical to a T38 head in weight and length. I was casting it out into the hole, waiting for it to sink and then retrieving it vertically up the walls. With the heavily weighted fly I reckon I was fishing at about 100ft depth whilst stood on dry land.

Hi James

Why not have gotten some proper leadcore trolling line and made a shootinghead out of that? Works great for deeper fishing for a varity of fish, and you don't have to mess around with 15plus meter shootingheads, unless you really really want to :)

Hi Lasse,

To be honest, I knew I would only be dedicating a few hours on a rainy day to it, so I just used what I had lying around the house - although I did buy a ridiculously expensive shooting line :oh:

Cheers, James
