Don’t think so. They often fish the right water but cast over too much water to get there. Many anglers only see the water, not where they should be fishing from as well. If you don’t need to put flyline on the water, then don’t.
The same applies in lake fishing too. I see anglers putting surface flies out into the distance when the boat is already drifting there. If you are drifting downwind then anything more than about 2m of flyline out the rod tip is usually too much. There are exceptions of course but thoughtless casting is never the best approach.
For me it’s the single biggest fishing fault. I see it all over the world.
