How is a fly cast measured? Rod tip to fly, rod tip to start of leader, feet to fly...or something else?

For competition it is front edge of platform to fly. Without a platform I measure front foot to fly.

Another commonly used term is carry, which is the length of flyline held to the line hand excluding leader.

Cheers, Paul
It's an exploration; bring a flyrod.

Hi MRA,
If I would want to compare outfits, I would measure from my position (front foot) to the end of fly line. The leader often increases standard deviation a lot.
So it depends on what I d need the measures for.

Thanks Bernd,
I've never really measured and never thought too much about distance. But now I'm focusing on practice and improving and I wanted to have a frame of reference.

For CI exam it's feet to fly.
