I commonly wipe down my rods with 303, but only with the rag that hangs on the bottle. I've never had a problem with the epoxy flaking off... but I don't spray it directly on the rod.

Now... if you really want to reduce the friction from the rod blank - there is a product called "MudSlinger" that is a fan favorite with the guys who race their 4 wheel "quads" through the swamps. If you spray down the fenders and undercarriage with this stuff you can just hose off the caked on mud after a day of play.

If I were to guess, I would bet that Mudslinger is just your light silicone oil in an aerosol spray can. But be forewarned- your rod will be so slick you can hardly pick it up by the blank. And if you get it on your ferrules...
With appreciation and apologies to Ray Charles…

Here’s a US source for silicone oil - https://www.escopro.com/silicone-fluids.html

Cost for a gallon is $300 plus $35 shipping.

Cost on Alibaba is $17 plus $70 for 7 day shipping, waiting on my quote for 30 day shipping.

Impressive markup by Esco.

I think I’ll order up extra containers for guests to take home. Normally I give them a sarong, or sometimes a T-shirt

I’ve just bought another kg (which is approx a litre) for 17.50US including shipping. I’ll see if I can find a way of packaging it and putting 1000% markup (only kidding!). Maybe we can ship a handier sized bottle with shirts or something like that to make the shipping worthwhile.

I’ll have a think. But so many guests ask for it I’ll need to become a “source”

I have a small bottle of line lubricant from Monic that I’m pretty sure that it is just low viscosity silicone oil that cost about $10 for about 2 centilitres.

Quick, order a bunch of small bottles, rebottle it and sell it as hot tortuga high speed lube.. you'll make enough to go to the world championships in august in no time :D

Cheers
