Shocking/tailing?

Hey Paul and everyone, ive been watching some of your older videos and just been wondering about a few things. If you go to around 6:05 and watch the slow-mo in the video. I can see your line hand go back to meet the rod hand while your rod hand is going forward.

Does that not shorten the stroke and increase the chances of a tailing loop? Im really curious to know why it doesnt shock the rod or create a tailing loop.

Like when he is transitioning from the back cast to the forward cast?
He isn't really affecting the line there. He is just setting things up for the forward part of the cast. It isn't until here things happen.

It is more described in detail here: https://www.sexyloops.com/flycast/compe ... ance-cast/

Something I think worth adding.
He can make that slide move without pushing slack into the cast because his backcast is so powerful. It straightens with tension and that tension helps keep the line from sagging too much. This buys him time to slide the rod forward along the taught line without much rotation thereby setting himself in a more powerful position. Try it with a weak sagging backcast and things don’t go so well.

I won’t take any video seriously that doesn’t have a beard.

Hi Stian, I’m guiding all this week but I promise you a longer answer at the beginning of next week at the latest. It touches a few bases here.

Cheers, Paul
