Hi Graeme,

I've pulled this old thread up, because it makes more sense to write about waves here.

The loop is in my opinion no wave or at least sounds to me very far-fetched. I'd agree with James and he has it already expressed it very well in posting #4.

There are several arguments speaking against the wave as useful concept.

Maybe some others have already written it, I'd add:

"Mechanical and electromagnetic waves transfer energy, momentum, and information, but they do not transfer particles in the medium."
(-> but we want to transport the fly to the fish)

Also the loop is in many cases asymmetric, even if you declare the loop as wave it would be a very special nonlinear wave.
