Why is this happening???

Post Number:#1  Postby Michal Duzynski » Wed Jul 18, 2018 12:46 am

Hi
Can somebody explain to me what is happening here.
I cast ST27G head, happy with setting up the loop, then delivery cast(starts ok) and then land in a pile of more spaghetti then my italian wife can cook.
I play with heads( short, medium, long), and the ratio of a good cast is maybe 2 out of 10.
I got exited as I have 2 good cast with straight layout and then shit happens like on a attached pic.
I google staff, I study( about what Im doing wrong), and then I come accros a slow mo video of Sakkari casting st27g head.
Seeing how the loop travels( fucking pointy as) I stop the video and strat getting frustrated again about my own casting. Today though I watched till the end and screenshot the final turnover( both loops)- they look as shity as mine ha ha,ha.
It makes me wonder why( knowing quality of a great caster Sakke is)?
With a lot of tail wind it will go far( even in my casting), and I dont know what magic the wind does that it will land somehow straight.

Same with Italians- awesome loops during fals casting and a pile of shit on delivery....

Just looking for some key points here...
cheers mike

Straight tracking, smooth acceleration, right amount of overhang, early release, and making sure the line velocity is high at release.

First picture, isn't that James?

Thin runningline accentuates mistakes.

Hi Lasse
Yes it is James, I just put this pic in to show how Sakkari's and the caster next to him loops started.
This early release is still driving me nuts...

Ah, ok :D

Where did you find Sakke's footage, I only have Nicklas Ericssons from that competition, as I recall, it was wet and no wind at all, small mistakes get blown up then :666:

Just throw it like you would throw the full line, only falsecasting should differ..

Cheers

I've seen a lot of casts (mine and other peoples) seemingly crumple for no apparent good reason - it's particularly evident in shooting head events. At times it looks to me that very small ripples in the fly-leg are magnified as the cast travels down the casting court - once they grow to a sufficient size then the cast stalls. I believe this is particularly common in casts which have 'ticked' - perhaps these have more initial ripples? I've also heard people talk of elastic effects in the fly line - I can perhaps imagine that some sort of 'spring-back' could also cause some small ripples, especially if the power application was abrupt.

So I go for smooth, progressive power and I try not to tick (I don't always achieve this however  )
