Magnus

Class results 👍🏻 Well done all especially the ladies!
Please correct me if I’m wrong, Tellis’s total is down as 113.5m yet is made up of a 57.5LH and a 56.5 RH (=114m)?

Cheers
Lee

I haven't really been following the fly casting competitions that closely in the last few years, but 140-150 feet is pretty amazing in the trout distance.
What are the lines used in the tournament? Do they still use the MED competition to achieve those distances? Is that the "go to" line? Is there any consensus on rods? I thought I had read a while back some people where using a 9wt and then underlining it?

Hi Dave

The MED competition 5 weight is the official line, so the one used :)

The consensus on rods is maximum 9 feet plus fabrikation variation (1 inch) and that's it. There is no such thing as a 9 wt is there? Paul has a rod that says either 5 or 10 above the handle depending on the buyer ;) it really is a 4....

Cheers

Yes of course! That 9 was before the HT was invented. I guess an 8 would be a possibility, with a 5wt MED.

So Lasse what rod do you use?

It funny... back in the “best of the west days”. Like 120’ was amazing. Rick Hartman then had the 170 deg thing and got adopted and modified. Then slowly the BRitish results were in the 130s to 140s. Now they are hitting 150s.

Hi Dave

Any rod, Paul finds that a rod he would otherwise write 12 on is good for him throwing the MED 5 :p

At the moment I'm using a tcx 690, but have just been trying out some new rods in Vancouver, and the next one I'll use have 9 written above the handle...

Remember that BOTW was indoors, three shots only and in a narrow lane, those results are still damn good!

165 has been broken outdoors, but with a Rio gold comp though.. Only a matter of time for it to happen with the MED.

Cheers

What?? After all those years of telling us that stiffness made no difference and it was the rod you were most familiar with?! I must sit down.

Cheers, Paul
