Stripping basket for kayak

#1

Post by Lou Bruno » Sat Aug 24, 2019 8:14 pm

Looking for suggestions to minimize fly line snags while in a kayak. I have a sit-on-top kayak with a swivel seat, for saltwater. I'm reluctant to strap a traditional stripping basket on. Suggestions?

Hi Lou

Might want to have a look at this one :

Or make something similar yourself.

Cheers

More like it, not cumbersome. Thanks

I have a folding leaf basket I store under the seat of my Pro Angler 14 to use when standing and fishing. If I'm sitting, I simply strip onto the deck between my knees.

If I were in a proper kayak, I would buy a 1 metre by 1 metre piece of that non-slip matt they put inside drawers and unfold that over my knees. I don't know what it's called where you are, but I buy it from our equivalent of your Home Depot stores.

Here's a link to the local product to let you see what I'm talking about. You can find a similar product in your area, for sure.

Cheers,
Graeme

Graeme
Good idea, this is what I use. I use a casting bar, which provides even more clutter for line snags.
Coverings the snags is a good idea, thanks I'll check into the mat.

Lou, I'll back Lasse's suggestion. I have a few of the FlexiStrippers, and it's a very nice product. I use them in my kayak, float tube and an adapted version on my pontoon boat. I also occasionally use it when fishing rivers using shooting heads.
It's very easy to position/mount it in different ways. In the float tube, I simply hook it to the belt loops on my waders with a couple of carabiners.
