Hi Paul
You may be right about the bend possible with that rod, I'm not checking.
Do you have the line database going? I've an odd one here, the line is a #6 and weighs as a #6, maybe a fraction below the target weight. But head is 1.5m shorter than the maker says it should be.

Nice, just ordered a P3, so you are saying I should fish a 10wt on it? Is that a RIO 4wt for bigger flies? ...and what about silk lines then?Paul Arden wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2019 3:08 pm I have too of course. Many years ago Magnum brought down a 2 or 3WT with a 10WT line (or something like that) with the instructions to break it casting. We couldn’t. However I don’t think that is a good representation for all rods. There are plenty of rods out there that simply explode with a comp distance stroke - irrespective of line weight.
How did you get on with the target shots, Lasse?

Can we have a field for colour change at colour change measured (and use the proper spelling of colour to piss off pretty much everyone.)

Cool, never succeded, and I have heavier lines than mostViking Lars wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 5:51 pm Lasse - yes, I’ve tried to break several rods with heavy lines and succeeded once. I’ve broken a few rods casting “normal” lines while certainly not trying to.

Broken rods while casting have almost always been down to faulty rods, either by design or mishaps, and they've all been with lines suggested for the rods.

Yep of course and I will of course spell colour correctly
The CCS database still exists. I just need to import it or get someone to do it. I also need to clean up both of the new databases. Both of which can be done in one day.
Lars makes some excellent points with regards the challenges of finding the end of the taper https://www.sexyloops.co.uk/theboard/vi ... =18&t=3073
Tomorrow I buy callipers. Flavio is visiting for the next three weeks. He is a physicist so that’s going to help! I might start by measuring 5 flylines we can use a test lines.
Looks like we get get this thing up and running on Monday then!
Cheers, Paul

Re: Lars FP about the bullhsitting line manufacturers
One Day, when I'm rich I'll get this one in digital:
https://shop.vogel-germany.de/measuring ... anguage=en
Until then, I'll live with digital calipers
Like Lars points out, coins are usually good for checking a scale.
I'd suggest measuring stretched lines, had a chat with Thomas Bergreen long ago, and he mentioned that measuring the MED way too short, untill he stretched it, and it suddenly was the stated 120 feet...
Glad to hear the ccs is still there, looking forward to it being up again
Haven't been out and doing a speed test to targets, will see if I manage over the weekend...
Cheers

Lasse - the shooting heads I use on my 15' two hander were heavy enough to break a 9' 4-wt Loop-rod :-).
