Tracy #7 distance

Just thought I'd stick this here for comment - Tracy casting 40m with a #7 line. What strikes me immediately is how little translation she uses to cast such a decent distance.

Hi James

What are you looking at to judge translation, the hand?

Hi James

Nice cast!

Tracy has about 2/5th of her strokelength being translation, counting from start of moving the line forward and ending at release of the line. Just had a look at my own, and for seatrout I have about 2/7ths translation, but thats a short head, and for trout I am in the 1/3rd ballpark.
So I'm not sure it's thatteh amount used is that little :)

That's interesting, perhaps it looks short to me because I start out here:

But then I only cast maybe 10ft further than her, so perhaps I should be studying why I have so much :D :D :D

Hi James

Yeah, but that's the end of the backcast. Where are you starting to move the line in the other direction :upside:
As in, where are your hands moving in the same direction again? you have to move your linehand back towards the rod, that doesn't move the line forward. And at the same time, you're moving your rodhand forward, sliding it along the line going backwards.
Where did you post the clip of you you took that still from?

And 10 feet at that end, is alot in same conditions, diminising returns and all.

Like Lasse, hang on. I might be about to agree with Lasse. Everyone sit down please and compose yourselves. Like Lasse… hang on I hear angels singing…

The biggest difference between you and Tracy I think is the backcast. On the forward cast you get into *approximately* the same position as Tracy using Slide.

If it works and achieves the required results why change ?
I know someone else who uses the ‘short’ stroke to great effect - Steve R.

Lasse - that he does, it makes you wonder many casters/anglers opt for the elongated style that can add tracking issues. 🤔
