A common mistake that people make is thinking that layback is solely due to the shoulder. There are other joints that contribute to full range of motion, particularly the scapula and thoracic spine.

It looks as though you need multiple internal cues to produce a successful outcome, possibly unique to each individual.

Thanks Vince, it's all part of the kinetic chain. That's why, "A common mistake that people make is thinking that layback is solely due to the shoulder. There are other joints that contribute to full range of motion, particularly the scapula and thoracic spine." is correct.

In fact, if you go back over my early posts in the other thread, I have specifically referred to both external shoulder rotation AND the thoracic spine when discussing that objective. I did not refer to scapular loading, or that other important contributor to layback which the quote does not mention, separation of the key proximal joints used in casting, in those recent posts as I had mentioned both earlier.

As to multiple internal cues, no, you only need one.

Which one do you use John?
