I realise I might be a bit biased but the BFCC is a bargain day out if you’re looking for instruction or hints and tips from world class competition casters. Everyone welcome, all the comps are open for anyone to have a go, instructors to help all day.

I'm sure you are right. Just going by the website that, until recently, only had 4 events listed. As they are all a fair distance away it was unlikely that I could ever get to more than 1. As a single day costs £15 and membership costs £20 I couldn't see any value in joining.
Now with more events it's looking much better value.
Not that it was really about the costs.

Hi Alan,

I think you only have to pay either £15 for a day or £20 for a year.

Yes I know. But with only 4 choices and likely only 1 event visit-able then the £15 was the better deal. So what was the point to joining?

But as I said it's not the money. It's about having enough events/activity in a year to make it seem a viable community. Now there are a few more events it is looking more like something to consider.

What would be wonderful is if local groups would spring up and then you could even have inter-club competitions. I’m going to try getting something rolling again over here. :)

Are you expecting that to be easier than national competitions?

Both go hand in hand I think.

That's an excellent idea Paul.

Maybe we could setup monthly informal casting sessions at our local clubs.

It’s how it all starts Alan. Back when I was in Essex we had regular meets. Stefan did the same thing locally in Sweden. Here in Malaysia we have distinct groups of flyanglers around the country. I’ve given some comp casting coaching introductions in 4 locations. The plan is to have a SE Asia championships with Japan and possibly Australia joining. There are a few guys in Indonesia, China and Taiwan who I hope will be interested. I went to Langkawi because I thought it would be a good venue (and possible to find some funding) and then Covid shut everything down.

All you need is one other caster who is as serious as you and that’s where it all starts.

Cheers, Paul
