Who could possibly imagine you could dance like that and still control a stick and some tape…they must have magical powers

Is it down to the bend in the expensive stick they hold?Stoatstail50 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 15, 2023 1:37 pm Who could possibly imagine you could dance like that and still control a stick and some tape…they must have magical powers

Bend matters, so yes
Your friendly neighbourhood flyslinger
Flycasting, so simple that instructors need to make it complicated since 1685

A whole lotta Snake Rolls. I must improve my routine with some handstands.
Re: Amplification of error.
I use that as an early drill too. First teach them why and how to make a loop then teach them how to control loop size. I sometimes wish I could go back in time and be my first instructor.Stoatstail50 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 15, 2023 1:23 pm The loop size task is a model old way new way.
I use switching from wide to narrow as a basic loop control drill early in teaching beginners. Not at 40’ though.

PS. I have a flying tank. Your argument is irrelevant.
PSS. How to generate a climbing loop through control of the casting stroke is left as a (considerable) exercise to the reader.

Hi Mark,Stoatstail50 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 1:44 pm A show demo is the least effective way of teaching. An instructor demoing a motion without getting you to then perform it is quite likely to be relatively ineffective too because that's just like a personalised show demo .
maybe we should start a thread on its own about this. I have a big "issue" with this your view. It violates a lot of my experience.
Just one simple example (have said it before, I know):
I read on SL "delay your haul". Next day my issue of a bc tailing on long line was gone withing 3 minutes of trying.
Instead a 2 days lesson with a cert. Master didnt help at all. He had the same issue but on a lower length. I struggled with this issue for many years.
Sometimes THE tiniest missing part can be achieved, kept and put into life long proper performance within seconds by just making someone UNDERSTAND.
I had that several times myself, both as a student and as the teacher.
No doubt a demo has limits compared to a typical lesson. Of course we agree on that.

Bernd

On why a show demo is less effective than a one to one lesson?
