Re: Structuring multiple lessons
So…someone who has learned to produce CI level loops by not looking, loses the loop when they look and the solution is to go back to not to looking? even though we think the best way to learn to control the loop….is…to look 😐 I have experienced lost loops many times with non CIs who have a single on...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
…of course you need to learn loop control first. That's the same for commercial instruction and casting sport. Unfortunately often teached with the clock face, I'd favor an open stance, side cast first, so that you can observe the backcast yourself. The obvious question is why, if we believe that l...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
I’m not teaching shots the way you do Paul. I haven’t had a caster in the last three years that could do that. However, it is common, I agree, for people to exercise less control over their bc when they’re not looking at it. The issue…in this thread anyway…is one of lesson sequencing. I think a cast...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
These threads get very weird sometimes. 🙂 I think you have to master some basic skills too Torsten, whether it is for casting sport or for fishing. I think John has tried to make this point…you can’t do either without the basic skills. In page after page and thread after thread on here the differenc...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
What you are describing Paul is a very good example of a drill being good for improving performance ie, FC accuracy but being bad for learning bc loop control.
From a lesson sequencing point of view I think you would schedule work on loop control first. I would anyway.

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
There is another part to this, but I think first we need to agree or disagree that not watching the backcast and still having control over it, is a critical fly fishing skill to have when casting to moving fish. Yes, I agree that Paul. What happens when you ask them not to watch? Most people don’t ...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
And…if the bc doesn’t matter and you haven’t taught them how to control a bc loop it still doesn’t matter because the bc doesn’t matter.
So I don’t understand your point

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
I’m not sure I understand the question Paul. If we have taught people to control loops front and back then, if they find themselves in a situation where the bc isn’t important then they can do what they like on the bc because it isn’t circumstantially important. Don’t have to teach them anything oth...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
It may be a minor nit picky kind of point on my part Paul but that is not competition accuracy and it is not a passing performance in a CI test. As I said elsewhere we can make a competition out of anything. In my view this tends to drive blocked practice routines which have their place for performa...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Some people just like to sit amongst the buttercups Paul…seeking something else.
Trying to discover the perfect cast is a lost hope, but what we learn by trying it is actually what we are seeking.
